PIANO TECHNICIAN

I am a piano tuner and technician working in the Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana tri-state region. I live in Cincinnati, close to downtown. I offer piano tuning and voicing and I regulate and rebuild pianos in many institutions and neighborhoods in the city. I have traveled to many other places as concert technician and consultant, but the majority of my work is in homes, schools, nightclubs and churches in the Greater Cincinnati area.

In my work, the focus of my attention is on the pianists I serve. I listen to them play, I watch their hands, and I ask a million questions before deciding how best to service their instruments. Some pianists are acutely aware of the tone of every note; others are more interested in the touch. My job is to make the piano an instrument of their expression.

In the following pages I will describe in plain language the work that I do and how it affects you. I will also give a technical explanation for each process, from " Piano Tuning" to "Complete Piano Restoration" in case you are one who studies piano technology or you are already familiar with the details of our craft.

I am a member of the Piano Technicians Guild and have served as chapter officer and tuning examiner. I have taught classes at chapter meetings, regional and national institutes and have published articles in the Piano Technicians Journal.
